A Guide to Your Portrait Session from Booking to Gallery
I’m stoked that we get to share and preserve some of your favorite memories together. By now, hopefully you’ve gotten a chance to take a peep at my gallery and you’ve decided that my artistic style matches your vibe. Rad.
Hopefully we’ve gotten a chance to talk about you, what your interests are, and if you have any ideas that you want to make this shoot special. If not, we’ll make some time. Hopefully we’ve chosen a location, and a place that’s meaningful to you – but if you’re looking for some suggestions, I can help there, too!
So what’s next? Well…
For groups, it’s a good idea to coordinate outfits and colors… but try to avoid matching directly (unless that’s your thing) since that can muddle up the shot and fall kinda flat. Color and styling is totally up to you, of course, and whatever you want to bring to the shoot will work great! Things like light, neutral tones shine in the spring while deeper earth-tones traditionally compliment the leaves in fall.
A quick prep checklist to keep you sharp:
Make sure your outfit(s) is/are cleaned, ironed, etc.
Clean out your pockets and put those keys somewhere safe
If we’re hitting the trail, bring your favorite hiking shoes and swap into your dress-up kicks for the shoot
Bring a hair brush and makeup if you want for touch-ups in between shots
It’s Colorado. Layering is key.
Chapstick, bro.
Also sunscreen. (The good stuff. Cheap stuff can be glossy.)
Bring a snack/water if you like. Especially for little ones. Bananas & granola, good. Hot wings & chocolate, bad. Doggos need treats, too.
Don’t forget any props you want to bring (especially for senior photos – instruments, sports equipment, etc.)
Usually we’ll aim to shoot around “Golden Hour,” or the hour before sunset where the light is gentle and diffuse, but in the right setting, most times of day are great. Mid-day (10am - 4pm in the summer, for example) is usually best avoided outdoors as light can be harsh. Speaking of light, during the shoot, we’ll keep things easy and comfortable, have a few laughs, and let the good energy flow. Heck yeah! Before you know it, our time together will be up, and the rest is up to me.
Sneak Peeks: Within about 48 hours, I’ll send along one or two lightly edited preview pics for you to get a flavor of the shoot
Contact!: In about 14 business days, I’ll send the full list of edited photos for you to enjoy from via Google drive
Printing: Of course, you have full print rights! The files on Google Drive will be full-resolution JPEGs, and I can offer some additional high-quality printing services and products from leading industry professionals as well
Payment: 50% non-refundable fee due at booking, and 50% due day of shoot
Weather: I’ll call you 2-4 hours beforehand if the weather turns south and we need to reschedule
Rescheduling: Must be done 48 hours prior. Rescheduling due to an emergency is allowed once, but weather is always free. All other rescheduling, including “no-shows,” is subject to loss of the 50% retainer fee, and subsequent re-booking will be charged full price.
Of course, if you’re as stoked about the shoot as I was and feel like posting the shots, I’d love it if you tagged me in the post! I’m on Instagram @inside.the.outside.
And if you happen to leave me a review on Google, I’ll send you an extra “fine art” edit of one of your pics, and offer a $20 credit toward a future session.
Lastly, always, please reach out to me at bepsteinphoto@gmail.com with any comments, questions, concerns or uh… quips that you might have!
